Thoughts Along the Way

“John the Baptizer appeared in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.”
Mark 1:1-4
The “wilderness” is a strange place indeed, filled with odd sounds, dark places and unknown surroundings. When John the Baptist appeared in the midst of a darkened world, “the wilderness,” there were all kinds of unrest; in-fighting, petty bickering, animosity, uncertainty, and judgment of others just to name a few. People were searching for something that would bring light to their worlds and offer an alternative to what they perceived to be around them. So in the midst of a world darkened by sin, fear and confusion, John the Baptist offered a glimpse of the hope to come; Jesus. Simply put, Jesus offers a new way that offers the light that will overcome the wilderness in which we may find ourselves lost. There is hope and that hope has the power of the universe to transform your life and allow you to see the world around you in a new and exciting way. Light does not change the wilderness but it does allow you to see the reality of your journey and the assurance that in the midst of whatever life may bring, there is a brightness that will free you to see the world in a whole new way, unafraid and assured of the eternal presence of Jesus, who was, is, and will be with you even to the end of the age. That is the hope and that hope has been offered to you. Turn back, repent, to the One who brings the light to your way, gives hope even in the midst of hopelessness and offers grace to transform your life no matter the wilderness in which you are wondering today. You are the beloved of God and the Light that created all things is lighting your way to realization of Jesus, who fulfilled the promise to be with you, especially you, now and forever.
