The great American poet, Ralph Waldo Emerson, said, “What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us.”  We at Fields invite people of all ages and backgrounds, to our Christian gatherings listed below. You are welcome to get involved, explore, and learn or be reminded that Jesus is the source of nourishment for “what lies within us,” our spirits.

ADULT STUDIES

Sunday Morning Adult Book/Bible Study @ 10AM in Room #210
Each season new Sunday morning adult gatherings form and meet for several weeks to study the Bible and other Christian books. Popular groups include Advent and Lenten studies. All persons high school graduate aged and up are welcome to join any gathering. Leaders often use a book that he/she will announce ahead of time and have available at the time of the class. As gatherings are planned they will be publicized in the church newsletter, weekly email blasts, on our social media sites, in our Sunday bulletins and on our announcement screens throughout the church.

United Women in Faith

(formally called United Methodist Women)

United Women in Faith

The organized unit of United Women in Faith is a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

United Women in Faith Thursday 10AM Discussion Group
Every Thursday morning at 10AM in the Media Center, this group considers articles from the monthly
“Upper Room” booklet available outside the church office.  Each week the topic is different so you don’t have to worry about missing a part of the study. Come join us as we discover God in many new and exciting ways. Often during Advent and Lent this group will do a short study of a Christian book.

Simple Abundance Women’s Group

The Ladies of Simple Abundance came to be a part of FUMC in the late 1990s when a book called “Simple Abundance – A Daybook of Comfort and Joy” by Sarah Ban Breathnach was used as a devotional. The author had a way of gently and spiritually reviving the soul and reminding us to find JOY in the simple things that many times get overlooked in our daily hurry-up. Since our official naming of the group, Simple Abundance, we have had the opportunity to enjoy many missions that God has put in our path. Meetings are time to get together and share our blessings over fellowship and laughter, prayer and praise, bible study and book studies, over prayer shawls and discussing the needs of our congregation. Some of our missions include the Cookie Walk in early December that has proven to be a hit with the congregation as well as the public. Certainly everyone’s favorite activity is our annual women’s retreat where church friends become family and families are blessed to have their mom, wife, mother, sister, aunt or grandmother refreshed and renewed with an ever growing Circle of Friends that provide unconditional love and support. If you are weathering storms alone, or just need some monthly ‘girlfriend time” please join us and feel the love of God working in all of us as He prepares us to live happily, simply and abundantly. Please contact the church office to get connected with this group’s meeting times and event dates.

Thursday Evening 7PM Bible Study
This Bible study is held every Thursday evening at 7 PM September through May in our Media Room.  The group studies the books of the Bible and through conversation we discern God’s revelation through the Holy Bible.  You do not need to know the Bible, just a passion to want to know God more completely in your everyday life.  All are welcome, whether you have never been to a study or have studied the Bible for decades.

Here is an overview of this season’s Bible Study led by Joe Carney:

Leviticus is the book at the beginning of the Old Testament that few Christians spend much time studying. The Minor Prophets represent the books at the end of the Old Testament that get the same kind of treatment. When was the last time you engaged in a study of Obadiah or Nahum or Habakkuk? If someone asked you what these books were about, would you know?

Our modern Bible divides the 12 Minor Prophets into 12 individual books, and this is how we often come to understand them. They’re the last dozen books of the Old Testament. Unfortunately, the name “Minor Prophets” causes us to think their message was less important—and their impact insignificant—especially when compared to the Major Prophets. Nothing could be further from the truth. Join us on Thursday evenings starting September 14th, in the media room, at 7pm as we explore the gift of God’s Word through the Book of the Twelve!

For Children and Youth

Sunday School @ 10am (September 17th, 2023 – May 19th, 2024)

In addition to bi-weekly IGNITE youth group  activities, (see our Events page for details) our Pre K through 12th graders gather from 10 to 10:50am on Sundays in the east wing classrooms during the school year (September through May).  With the guidance of adult volunteers, we dig deeper into scripture meanings, discuss how we feel about current events, and enjoy group building activities. Our  children and youth are encouraged to be a part of our IGNITE groups, our worship servicse of their choice, and participate as acolytes,  ushers, lay readers, musicians or singers and AV techs.

Confirmation Class

Confirmation Class is held annually most years if there are more than 3 youth committed to the class. It is for youth 6th grade or older and classes are held from 9:30-10:50am on Sunday mornings from October through the end of April. The group attends a Confirmation Weekend Retreat in February and plan their Confirmation worship service, which is typically the 1st Sunday in May. If you are interested in Confirmation Class please contact Nancy Florio or Emily Radloff.

Crib and Toddler Rooms
Our littlest of friends can take a break or spend the entire Sunday service in the Crib and Toddler rooms. We provide a safe, clean environment for infants and toddlers up to age 4.  We broadcast the worship service in both rooms so adults don’t miss the service if they need to stay.

Vacation Bible School (Summer Program)

Every summer Fields UMC hosts a 3-5 day long event for preschool and elementary aged children. This program is free and open to the public and is run by a great group of volunteers who love to share the word of God with children. Each year the VBS theme takes all the participants on an exciting adventure at our church for several hours each day.  VBS  is a special time for the kids to share with their families what they learned about God and Jesus! See the events page for registration & details (typically in May).
