Daily Devotional – Day 5
During this time when we are unable to meet face to face, Pastor Tom will be having a daily devotional message posted here.
March 23, 2020
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13
Read: Romans 15
So what does it mean to be “filled with all joy and peace in believing?” Looking around our world and our nation, peace would appear to be the last thing we are seeing, yet it is peace that could well transform the way we react to one another and rise to that challenges that lay before us. Being filled with peace, the peace of Christ, is not the same as “world peace,” it does not assume that everybody will get along and sing “Kum Ba Yah” in one voice. When we allow God to fill us with peace, there is a calm in the midst of the storm, and hope when our path is unknown. When Jesus was on the path to the cross he knew what was coming, yet he had the conviction that God was in control and the resolve in knowing that through the cross hope would be offered to all those who believe. Maybe peace is about letting go, just letting go knowing that God will offer what we need to overcome any obstacle that comes our way; many times this means allowing others to help us when we feel we cannot continue. God’s peace gives assurance that life will abound because of the “overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God.” (Cory Asbury) And in the words of Horatio Spafford who was mourning the loss of his entire family at sea, when all was taken away, it is the peace of Christ that “taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul.”
How would life change if we were truly filled with peace, and joy, of believing?
In your daily life, how can you discover and experience the peace of Christ and “be at peace” along your journey today?
How are you taking time to be holy today?
Prayer, Lord may the God of hope fill my soul with all joy and peace. Help me to live my life in your peace, sharing the same peace with those around me. Thank you Jesus for never letting me go and never giving up on me. Amen
