A Message from Bishop Malone

A Call to Prayer…

I invite and encourage all East Ohio Conference pastors, congregations and faith communities to join The United Methodist Church and Christians all over the world at noon tomorrow, Wednesday, March 25, as we join together as one human family during this COVID-19 pandemic and pray to God for the eradication of the coronavirus and the healing of our world.

Our UMC Council of Bishops asks that we join in Pope Francis’ invitation to all Christian leaders around the globe to unite in praying the Lord’s Prayer. I ask that wherever you are at noon tomorrow that you stop, be still, and join us as we unite our voices together and pray the prayer our Lord taught us:

Our father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever.
Amen.

As Christians, we believe in the power of prayer and we continue to place our trust in the Word of God:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
– Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)

“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.”
– Jeremiah 29:12 (NIV)

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
– Hebrews 4:16 (NIV)

“In my distress I called to the Lord;
I cried to my God for help.
From his temple he heard my voice;
my cry came before him, into his ears.”
– Psalm 18:6 (NIV)
