Daily Devotional – Day 14
Day 14: Take Time to Be Holy
April 7, 2020
“Beloved, since God loved us so much, we ought to love one another.”
I John 4:11
Read: I John 4:7-19
God loves you without a doubt. As we journey along during Holy Week, what is becoming even more apparent is God’s love; a love that surpasses all of our understanding and human definition of love. As we feel the warm and fuzzies of God’s eternal presence and love, there is something else that God has called us to do; share the same love we have received with another. As mystic Teresa of Avila so well put, “Christ has no body but yours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which he looks compassion on this world.” God’s love is meant to be shared, especially in times such as these. You are needed, whether you are at home “staying in place” or on the frontlines of this pandemic. Your voice on the phone, your message sent, your note mailed could be a lifeline for someone else. A wonderful picture that was shared with me of an empty church with these words capture the moment and our calling, “The church is not empty, it is deployed,” and so it is. You are the church and you are the beloved of God to share the profound message of Jesus. You may never know the affect you will have on someone just by simply witnessing your love. You may never know the impact, but you do have impact, a positive, eternal impact when you witness what you have received. You are needed. You are loved. You are deployed. You are a blessing to another as you have been blessed by God’s eternal love. God loves you, and will even to the end of the age.
How has someone in the past few days witnessed God’s love to you?
How do you feel when someone says, “God loves you,” even though you may not feel it?
How are you taking time to be holy today?
Prayer: Gracious God, you shared your eternal love with each of us through Jesus, who offered each of us the treasure of love that has no end. Help us to live out what you have shared with us and open our eyes to the indescribable love that you have given each of us. Thank you for the blessing of your eternal presence and love shared through our Lord and Savior Jesus. Amen
