Daily Devotional Day 22

Day 22.  Take Time to Be Holy

April 21, 2020

“Now you are the Body of Christ and individually members of it.”

I Corinthians  12:27

For the past six Sundays we have been worshiping online, with only at most seven persons in the building including worship leaders sound/video folk and office.  The pandemic and all that has come with it has limited our lives in so many ways, but also allows us to view the church truly as the “body of Christ” not tied to place and time.   Notice how St. Paul wrote that we “are the Body…” not we part of the Body…Each of us comprise the Body of Christ, the church, deployed where ever God has placed us.  The church may look a bit different right now, but it is still the Body of Christ with you an individual and essential part.  No matter what gifts God has given you, they are important and make up what the church is all about, with Jesus Christ as the foundation and focus.   There is a divine and holy connection; a cord that cannot be broken that keeps the Body of Christ together. Traditions may change as methods and terminology transition to new eras but the calling to make disciples never changes. By virtue of you taking the time to read this devotional, to pray, to witness, and care for those in need, you are rising to this grand calling of Jesus upon your life. Many years ago, I presided over a Celebration of Life for a young mother of 2. I was not sure that my words rose to the level to offer comfort to this grieving family, but 14 years later I received a call from her son, thanking me for the support during a difficult time. A kind word, a cup of water, or a message saying you care may seem like they fall flat, but they do not; your love and kindness is not forgotten and your witness becomes part of someone else. The reason; you “are the Body of Christ.” Somebody once said, “God doesn’t call the equipped, God equips the called.” You have been given the blessings, equipped by the Holy Spirit, to serve and those who you serve will be blessed as a result.

List 3 things you can do to help someone today.

How has your life been blessed today?

How are you taking time to be holy today?

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, thank you for the blessings of my life. Thank you for the privilege of being a blessing to someone else with what I have received from you. Amen
