Daily Devotional Day 42
Day 42. Take Time to Be Holy
May 27, 2020
“The spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord has anointed me; he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the wounds of the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners.”
Isaiah 61:1
Read: Isaiah 61
Shopping online or from a catalog makes everything that we would like to purchase look better; bookshelves sturdier, desks user-friendly, and outdoor furniture inviting. The problem is when the package arrives there are hundreds of pieces to assemble and each part has its place. Of course there are the instructions and some people actually read them but something else is needed to complete the project; tools. Tools are required to ensure all pieces and parts fit snugly and stay in place for the year the item lasts. Sometimes there is just the right tool found in the package that ensures proper construction. So it is with our faith and our calling to serve the people that Jesus died for and for whom he was resurrected on the third day. God has called us but has not left us at all on our own. We have been equipped with all the “tools” we need; the Holy Spirit. You have been anointed, yes especially you, to proclaim the good news to the poor, the challenged, the neglected, and lonely, and all those who so desperately need someone to walk with them and assure them of the presence of God in their lives. Somebody once said that God doesn’t call the equipped, God equips the called. You have been called and equipped by God to witness the Good News of Jesus Christ in your daily journey because God knows it is truly a gift to be able to reach out to another person in their time of need. Jesus says to you, “the Advocate, The Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name will teach you everything and remind you of all I have said to you.” (John 14:26) Every time you say you are not equipped, you are equipped by the Holy Spirit; every time you say I can’t do it, you are given the power to do it by the Holy Spirit; every time you say let someone else do it; the Holy Spirit anoints you to be that someone. You have been blessed, truly blessed by the Holy Spirit to bring good news to someone today. No matter who you are you are making a difference in someone’s life.
What are 3 “gifts” you have been given by God to share with someone else today?
How have you been strengthened by the witness of another?
How are you taking time to be holy today?
Prayer: Jesus, help to use the gifts you have given me to make a difference in somebody’s life today. Amen
