Daily Devotional Day 40

Day 40. Take Time to Be Holy

May 21, 2020

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.”  Romans 12:2

Read: Romans 12:1-8

One of the most hurtful, damaging phrases if used improperly is, “it is God’s will.” Some would view God’s will as a club, punishing all people who step out of line. Still others contend that every illness and tragedy is “God’s will.” There must be an explanation to our challenges and they must all be from God. Maybe there is another definition of God’s will that has nothing to do with causing calamity or heart break; maybe God’s will is discerned through not being “conformed” to a certain worldview of negativity and bitterness, rather God’s will is more properly defined within the parameters of the eternal love of God showered upon us through Jesus Christ. God’s will for us is to be conformed to the grace of God which is all about hope, peace, joy, and new life offered when we turn to Jesus as Lord and Savior. Conforming to the love of God in Christ Jesus is the will of God for us and the affirmation that our loving Lord seeks only that we live life with God’s abounding love in our hearts for God and for our neighbor. As a parent who wants nothing but the best for their children, God wants and seeks nothing but the best for you; living life in the love of Jesus that has no end.  Turn back to God in all that you do, say, and think; make room in your soul for God’s grace and you will truly know “God’s will” for your life. When you live out God’s will there will be celebration and joy with the proclamation, “free at last, free at last; thank God almighty I’m free at last.” Free to celebrate God in new and joy-filled ways while loving God with all your mind, soul, and strength while loving your neighbor as yourself.

How can God’s will be expressed in hope-filled, faith-inspired ways?

How can you “conform” your life to God’s grace?

How are you taking time to be holy today?

Prayer:  Jesus, help me to conform my life around your love, hope, and joy so I can better witness to others your grace to them.  Amen
