Daily Devotional Day 21
Day 21. Take Time to Be Holy
April 20, 2020
“You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid.” Matthew 5:14
Read: Matthew 5:1-16
Many years and churches ago, a woman came up to me and said, “Pastor, I am worthless. For many years I taught Sunday School, led missions, and did so much but now I am just an old woman and can’t do a thing.” She told me this as she cried uncontrollably. Every Sunday, I told her, you walk up the center aisle every Sunday morning and sit in the front pew; you are an inspiration to your congregation and are still changing lives through your witness of undying faith. Just as this person was, you are the Light of the world, you really are, no matter how old or young, and no matter your financial or health condition, you are a blessing in how you live your life today. You may even think you do not have the faith or the gifts to be the “light of the world,” but you are still someone’s light. How are you living your life during this pandemic? Your encouraging words, commitment to family, calming presence, and your faith in the midst of challenge is a bright shining beacon to those around you. You are a witness to the love of God to the world that is around you; you are needed because you have been blessed. Maybe you are not feeding the masses, or digging wells for fresh water, rebuilding homes, passing out food and clothing to the needy, or traveling around the world (prior to this age we find ourselves in of course), but what you are doing is just as important, it is a big deal; people are called to a variety of ministries where God has placed them. God has placed you where you find yourself today, this very day. Your faith cannot be hidden; it shines through even the most challenging of times. God gives us gifts to serve the needs of people today; you have all you need to be the light of someone’s world. You are a blessing and the light of the world, especially you.
How has your life been blessed by the “light” of another today?
How are you being a blessing to those around you?
How are you taking time to be holy today?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for sharing with me your light and the many blessings I have received from you. Help me to understand that I am a blessing to others for just being who I am, your beloved child. May my faith be an inspiration to someone in need today. Amen
