Jesus Along the Way: Words of Grace and Hope.                    Pastor Tom Joyce

September 29, 2020

“In Christ we have also obtained an inheritance, having been destined according to the purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to his counsel and will, so that we, who were the first to set our hope on Christ, might live for the praise of his glory.”  Ephesians 1:11-12

Jesus offers the gift of “an inheritance,” eternal life, for all those who believe. Nothing stops our Lord from offering this hope, not only for those we have lost but also for ourselves. If you are seeking purpose in life, in Christ you have the purpose of living out praise and thanksgiving of our Lord and Savior. Imagine those who have struggled with loss in their lives, either of a person near to their hearts or just losses incurred through this time of pandemic, maybe you are part of this group; it is a big, big group. Now imagine the joy that would be felt when every last one is assured that they are not alone, that their loved one is in the very presence of Jesus and forever linked with them in spirit. The inheritance you have received from Jesus is a precious gift intended to be shared, especially with those struggling through difficult and painful times in their lives. “But how can I witness to somebody else when I am struggling with my own faith and own challenges? Pastor Rick Warren of the Saddleback Church in Southern California reminds us that “we may have a little faith, but we serve a big God!” We serve a big and awesome God that willingly and with joy offers an inheritance that will never be taken away by anybody. There are no strings attached nor hills to climb; God calls for us to repent, live a life of grace, peace, and hope set on Christ, and with thanksgiving offer “praise to his glory,” for all to hear. Your faith may be personal, but it was never intended to be private, to remain in the confines of your home, your church, or your heart. In fact, if we were able to limit such a faith, it would be no faith at all. People need you today, you have purpose, especially today to live for the “praise of his glory,” so all may know that their Lord is with them along the way, even and especially in times such as these.
