Daily Devotional – Day 20

Day 20.    Take Time to Be Holy

April 16, 2020

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19

Read:  Matthew 28

Some search a lifetime seeking their purpose in life; some find it early on life’s journey and others, well are still searching.  The Bible says we all have gifts that have been given to share with others. The challenge is how do we share the joy of faith?  Jesus calls us to “go,” but interestingly enough does not tell us how; maybe because the gifts each of us have are unique to who we are and our life’s story.  Your story is important, the good, the bad, and all the stuff in between. Everything about you is important and the gifts you have received reflect who you are and how much Jesus trusts you with them. You do have purpose because you have the love of Jesus “down in the depths of your heart.” When Jesus says “go and make disciples,” he doesn’t mean to look back and bemoan what was done but rather to be filled with the renewing power of the resurrection to move forward in faith, witnessing what the love of God through Jesus has done in your life to make you whole. Your life is a testimony to what God can do, and is doing; that story needs to be shared. To “go and make disciples” may be a witness of the power of God in your life and how you live your life today, in the shadow of the cross, not your past. Somebody needs you to tell your story, sometime using words. You have been set free through the same power that resurrected Jesus from the dead.  Celebrate new life, even and especially in this time of pandemic; there is hope because there is Jesus, alive and well. Your purpose is to celebrate the love of God through Jesus Christ where you find yourself today so that your life may be a beacon to another who is in desperate need of Christ in their life.  You, especially you, are important because you are loved more than words can describe. You have purpose because you are needed; because you are loved by the “One who neither slumbers nor sleeps.”

What are 3 ways you can share the love of God today with somebody else?

How has God transformed your life throughout your “story?”

How are you taking time to be holy today?

Prayer: Gracious God, help me to understand the gifts I have received from you and the importance of sharing them. May my witness of faith help another become closer to you. Thank you Jesus for loving me more than I know or deserve.  Amen

Worship Update: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, worship will be on-line only for the month of January. We want to do what we can as a church to “do no harm,” keep people safe and at the same time stay in relationship with our community and most importantly with God. God is good and will provide. Thank you for your grace; we will journey through this month together,
strengthened and upheld by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

We do monitor weekly the Lorain Department of Health for updates. Moving forward, we will continue to livestream our
Sunday morning 11:00 worship service as we have for the past several years and are providing the “phone-in” and “drive-in” options for listening to the service if saints do not have internet access.
