Celebrate Jesus!
Pastor Tom Joyce
January 9, 2023
“And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.’”
Matthew 3:17
When Jesus was baptized and the Holy Spirit descended on him, the world experienced first-hand the love of God in action. The pure love of God transformed relationships not only between people but between God. When you were baptized, you were incorporated into the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ; an eternal bond was created between you and God. In the midst of the challenges that at times seem overwhelming, it is hard to remember that God so loves you that “he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” (John 3:16). Your relationship with God through Jesus, the Beloved, is the most important relationship you have because it is confirmed through an old rugged cross and an empty tomb. Remembering your baptism does not mean you can recall what you wore, who was there, and what was said; it means that you respond to the love you received from God by your love towards others. Your faith is a gift to be cherished and shared with those along your path. When you were baptized, the heavens rejoiced and your adventure of faith began, but not in solitude. You are forever part of the Body of Christ, together with millions of faithful people in this life and in the life to come. Baptism is a gift you have received from Jesus, who promised to be with you, even to the end of the age.
