“Yes, You….” I Peter 1:13-16

“for it is written, you shall be holy, for I am holy.”

I Peter 1:16

You are a holy person of God. Does that sound strange to you; do you feel like you deserve to be called “holy?” Funny thing about faith in Jesus, because Jesus is holy so are you. You have been called by God to witness something very important, it is the most precious gift you have ever received. You did not open it, it was opened for you and offered to you free of charge. You are holy because Jesus has called you to be holy, to be set apart for the joy of knowing that you are beloved by God and the same joy that has been shared with you ought to be shared with others. Your witness is important because the world needs to know what it is to be a child of God, to accept and be accepted by God, without condition. We all need our lives tidied up a bit and we all need to turn back to the one who will welcome us back with open arms. Being called “holy” does not mean that we are perfect, but it does mean that our lives are guided by the One who “neither slumbers nor sleeps” and promises “to be with us, even to the end of the age.” Being holy plants our feet on the higher ground of God’s righteousness and not our own. Yes, you are holy, because you have been blessed to be part of this thing called the “Holy Body of Christ,” and everyone is welcome who is open to the love of God through our Lord Jesus Christ who calls all who are “tired and carrying heavy burdens.” You are a witness of the glory of God for no other reason than that God loves you and calls you to the privilege of sharing the same love, grace, that has been offered to you; “set all your hope on the grace that Jesus Christ will bring you when he is revealed.” (I Peter 1:13) Thank you Jesus for guiding our every step so we can be holy as you are holy in all that we do, for your glory.
