COMMITTEES OF
FIELDS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

 

The leadership development and resourcing ministries shall give attention
to the ongoing preparation and development of lay and clergy leaders for
the ministry of the church.

Ministry of the Laity — All God's people in all places and in all times are
called to love and to serve.

CHURCH COUNCIL

As the ongoing committee that makes basic policy and major program decisions for the church,
the Administrative Board is made up of At-Large members and the Chairperson of each church
committee. A few additional officers serve on the Administrative Board.

COUNCIL ON MINISTRIES

This "super-committee" is composed of the chair people of most of the committees listed below,
as well as certain groups that function within the church. It oversees the programs within the church.

LAY LEADER

The primary lay representative of the laity in the local Church, this person fosters awareness of
the role of laity both within the congregation and through their ministries in the home, work place,
community, and world and finding ways within the community of faith to recognize all these
ministries. The lay leader has many responsibilities.

PASTOR-PARISH/STAFF-PARISH RELATIONS

Consults with the Congregation and the District Superintendent in regard to the personnel needs
of the church. This committee mainly works with the pastor to assure that there is an effective
rapport with the pastor and congregation. This committee also serves as a personnel committee
for other staff employed by the Church.

FINANCE

Compile annually a complete budget for the local church and submit it to the Administrative
Board for review and adoption. The committee is responsible for developing and implementing
plans which raise sufficient income to meet the budget adopted by the Administrative Board. It
shall administer the funds received according to instructions from the Administrative Board.

FINANCIAL SECRETARY

The financial secretary shall keep records of the contributions and payments.

  

TRUSTEES

Responsible for maintaining the property of the church. This includes the church,
parsonage (pastor’s home), Barn and other church-owned buildings, land, equipment
and trust funds.

CHURCH TREASURER

Shall disburse all money contributed to causes represented in the local church budget, and such
other funds and contributions as the church council may determine.

LAYMEMBER OF ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Has the privilege of representation at the annual conference. These persons shall report to the
local Church on actions of the annual conference.

CHURCH HISTORIAN

Will preserve the history of the local church: keep historical records up to date.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE

Recruits, calls, encourages members to serve as is appropriate in the church. The Pastor is
the chairperson of this committee.
